Since the start of the PLN foundation the goal has been to find a safe and affordable treatment for PLN-R14del. Thanks to the tireless efforts of the team, the scientists, and the volunteers connected to the foundation, this treatment is coming closer every day. For that reason, the PLN foundation recently became the owner of PLaN Therapeutics: a biotech start-up focused on social rather than financial return.
PLaN Therapeutics was founded in 2021. This allowed us to communicate more effectively with the pharmaceutical industry, as pharma companies generally prefer collaborating with businesses rather than foundations. Originally, PLaN Therapeutics was established with investments from families carrying the PLN mutation. Its goal—then and now—is to bring a therapy from the lab to the patient. From the very beginning, PLaN Therapeutics has collaborated closely with the PLN foundation.
Within PLaN Therapeutics, social return takes precedence over financial return. Initially, PLaN Therapeutics operated as an independent organization. To better align both the foundation and the biotech start-up, the founding families decided to donate their shares in PLaN to the foundation. This enables both organizations to work jointly towards their shared mission: developing a safe and affordable treatment for PLN. PLaN Therapeutics is now fully owned by the PLN foundation.
